History

Personal History Marshall was born on the colony of Setlik III after the massacre. He never knew his human father and while his Betazoid mother spoke very highly of his father, he was able to sense at a small age that his mother was lying about his father and how sad and hurt his mother was from James' abandonment of the two of them. While life on the colony was far from ideal, Marshall was very close to his mother. Given it's close proximity to the Cardassian border, there was a lot of tension on the colony. His mother worked as a farmhand on one of the colony's larger farms. It was there that Marshall would be introduced to the basics of engineering as he was allowed to watch, and eventually assist, with the repairs to the equipment. Due to the smaller size of the colony, Marshall also learned the value of making due with what was at hand.

When Marshall was a young child his mother was one of the civilians killed in the massacre. He was taken in by a neighbor and friend of his mother's but Marshall was always trying to run away to the spaceport. He always had a desire to go out and explore space. In an attempt to try to give the boy some stability, he was introduced to some Starfleet officers who found that while he didn't respond well to traditional counseling, he had a natural affinity for fitness and was taught how to box to help focus his mind. While the boxing training did help for some time, soon Marshall found himself getting into trouble and engaging in petty crimes throughout the system. He was involved in minor thefts and cons throughout his teens.

At the age of nineteen, Price was caught trying to smuggle religious artifacts off Bajor with the intention of scanning and replicating them to sell the fakes for profit. The crime landed him three years in a Bajoran prison. While serving his sentence, Marshall was stabbed by a Cardassian inmate with a makeshift weapon over a threat Marshall made. While recovering in the infirmary, Price decided he needed to get his life on track. He began training as best he could in boxing.

Once free, he spent the next ten years as a prize fighter. While far from being a champion or famous, he had a very illustrious career with a final record of 80-3-1. The career took somewhat of a toll on his health as his Betazoid physiology struggled to cope with so many head injuries and he was forced to retire if he did not want to suffer from permeant damage to such abilities. Having saved up funds, Marshall decided to buy his own freighter and became a freelance privateer. Because he was so fearless, Price found he often would take jobs on the frontier of known space as they would usually pay a minimum of at least double of most freighter jobs he could get. Often alone on the fringes of known space for weeks at a time, Marshall taught himself all he could about many skills including engineering, ship mechanics and repairs, hydroponics and even sewing. He developed strong survival skills and a sense of resourcefulness and subsistence as a result.
